Jamaat-e-Islami Leadership Attends Funeral of Ismail Haniyeh in Doha: High-Level Meetings with Islamic Leaders and Hamas Officials

On August 2, 2024, the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan ( Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman) and Director Foreign Affairs ( Asif Luqman Qazi) attended the funeral prayer of Ismail Haniyeh, the former Prime Minister of Palestine and head of Hamas, in Doha, Qatar. Before the visit, contacts were made with Hamas officials.

Prior to the funeral, they visited the Hamas center in Doha and met with various Islamic movement leaders, Hamas leadership, and other personalities. Notable figures like Sheikh Muhammad Saghir, Sheikh Issam Al-Bashir, Shaikh Muhammad Al Daddu, Musa Abu Marzouk, and representatives of the Muslim Brotherhood were present.

From the Hamas center, they proceeded to the funeral, which was attended by Qatar’s Amir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, resulting in tight security arrangements. They were asked to leave their mobile phones in the car.

The funeral prayer was held at the Imam Abdul Wahhab Mosque, led by Hamas Vice President Khalil Al-Hayya. After the funeral, a limited number of people, including Haniyeh’s family, Hamas leaders, and Islamic movement leaders, proceeded to the burial site.

Following the burial, they went to a specially arranged condolence tent, where Khalid Mashal personally escorted the Ameer and Director of Foreign Affairs to a seat next to him. Notable figures like Haniyeh’s eldest son, Abdul Salam, Jordanian Islamic Movement leader Sheikh Hammam Saeed, and Khalil Al-Hayya were present.

After the condolence gathering, they visited the residence of Shaikh Ali Muhayyuddin Quradaghi, President of the Global Union of Muslim Scholars, who had invited them for lunch. He shared details about the union’s programs and highlighted aspects of mutual cooperation.

In the evening, the Ameer addressed the sit-in via an online speech. Later, they headed to the airport for their return journey.
